Filled to speak

Then his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied

Luke 1

Have you ever noticed in the Bible that when the Holy Spirit fills someone, they speak the truth? That’s the common result. So, wouldn’t it be nice if we could know if we are filled with the Hold Spirit? Well, are we speaking the truth, or are we keeping silent? Are we sharing the gospel? He, the Spirit, wants to share the message of Jesus with the world. If He’s inside, He’s trying to get that word out. Listen to Him. Let’s speak up and tell people about Jesus.

Are we?

Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Mark 16

Are we doing what He has commissioned us to do? Are you telling people the good news of Jesus? Are you baptizing people? Are you seeing that people are saved by believing in Jesus as Lord? If you give through your church, you are. If you serve your church, you are. If you invite your friends, co-workers, and neighbors to church, you are. Church, there is no “plan B” for the Great Commission. 🙂

Who’s To Blame?

Pilate asked them again, “Then what do you want me to do with the one you call the king of the Jews?”

Again they shouted, “Crucify him!”

Pilate said to them, “Why? What has he done wrong?”

But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!”

Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

Mark 15

Who’s to blame for Jesus’ death? It’s always easy to blame those “in power” for the things that happen, and those in positions of authority surely want to get credit when things turn out well, but who’s really to blame? Pilot may get a bad rap for Jesus because he was the one “in charge” but he was just doing what the crowd wanted. It’s easy to blame the president or the governor or some other elected official, but we get what we ask for. This is even more true the more corrupt the politician is. If they don’t have any principles what so ever, then they want to be re-elected more than anything else. We get what we ask for. Pilot isn’t guilty of Jesus’ death, we all are. Jesus went to the cross because of our sin. Let’s not blame someone else for the pickle we find ourselves in, let’s focus more on where do we go from here.

Other People’s Money

While he was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured it on his head. But some were expressing indignation to one another: “Why has this perfume been wasted? For this perfume might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they began to scold her. Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a noble thing for me

Mark 14

How much is worship worth? What is the purpose of our lives? “Oh, you’re wasting your money giving to ‘X’… I can’t believe that church spent… they should have given to this organization/cause…” Be careful who you sound like. When we complain about how others use their resources as an act of service for the kingdom, we sound more like Judas than Jesus. If it’s their money, it’s their business (literally). Should we be good stewards of the resources the Lord has blessed us with? Yes. It’s impossible to out-give God, so investing in the kingdom is never a waste. Worship is worth it.

Destruction

“Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another—all will be thrown down.”

Mark 13:2

Who could have predicted the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem? Jesus. Forty years after Jesus’ words to his disciples, this took place. He knows the future and we can trust him. When will we return? We can’t predict that either, but we trust Him.
