Who Is Your Enemy?

27 “But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Luke 6

Who is your enemy? How do you treat them? “But you don’t understand, they hurt me… obviously, that’s not the kind of ‘enemy’ Jesus is talking about.” Just stop and think about that for a moment. “love your enemies” is a statement every Christian knows is in the Bible… so is there a single person on the planet we are not called to show compassionate love to? Do we always do that? Shouldn’t we?

When The Miracle Happens

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”

5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I’ll let down the nets.”

6 When they did this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets began to tear. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!” 9 For he and all those with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s partners.

“Don’t be afraid,” Jesus told Simon. “From now on you will be catching people.” 11 Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed him.

Luke 5

When the miracle happens, how do we respond? Peter showed his true heart, he usually did. He didn’t believe Jesus would come through, it’s not that he was actively doubting, he just didn’t even factor a miracle into the equation. He would accomplish his plans himself. When God showed up and performed a miracle, Peter repented and he grew a little more faithful. When God shows up in our lives, do we repent because of our lack of faith? Do we factor God into the equation? Do we follow Jesus and do what he asks whether or not it seems to us we can accomplish it? God can do it, when Jesus speaks, let’s listen.

Healing Them…

When the sun was setting, all those who had anyone sick with various diseases brought them to him. As he laid his hands on each one of them, he healed them. Also, demons were coming out of many, shouting and saying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.

Luke 4

Jesus went around and as he was offering the gospel, and teaching people how to live like Him, He also met people’s physical needs. He did this so people would listen to him. It wasn’t a tactic, or a marketing strategy, but neither was it is ultimate purpose for being with them. The demons knew who He was, He wanted everyone to know. We, as a church, have it as our mission to “reach people, teach people, and serve people.” We serve so we might have the credibility to reach them with the gospel, and teach them how to live like Jesus. Don’t forget to serve others.

To Whom Does God Speak?

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Iturea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, God’s word came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

Luke 3

If we want to know the direction our nation should go, do we look to our political leaders? Do we look for the will of the people? Perhaps we should listen for that lone voice crying in the wilderness. Look at all those names of key leaders in the government and life of Israel at this time, yet God didn’t speak to them. God spoke to John. A crazy man who lived out in the wilderness who ate bugs and wore strange clothes, but he was faithful. Listen to those voices, crazy as they may sound, that don’t contradict God’s Word. They are the ones making the path straight to Jesus, just Like John.
