Luke 16

Sometimes we think if we just had the right method, the right kind of music, the right facility, the right meeting time, the right argument, we could reach those “hard to reach” people. The reality is, all we need is to give them the gospel. The simple truth of the story of Jesus. Just as the Rich Man’s family had the Bible, and not even someone raised from the dead would convince them if they won’t believe the simple Gospel, so too it is with people today. We’re called to share the truth. We do all we can, but it’s really up to them. We can rest easy if we adopt the great preacher’s attitude:

“If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies. And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for.”

You are valuable to God. One person who decides to really follow Jesus is worth are than you can imagine to God. He is diligently searching for those who genuinely want to follow Him. Is your faith a fad, or is it the real deal? Do your friends and family know you are truly sold-out for Jesus? God Is looking for crazy people like you. 🙂

Don’t fight for your position, we end up pushing others down. In stead, focus on doing your best for the Lord. Be humble, and He will recognize your faithfulness.

6 And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree that was planted in his vineyard. He came looking for fruit on it and found none. 7 He told the vineyard worker, ‘Listen, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it even waste the soil?’

8 “But he replied to him, ‘Sir, leave it this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 Perhaps it will produce fruit next year, but if not, you can cut it down.’”

Luke 13

Jesus often gave parables about “The Kingdom.” This is all about God’s people, His followers, we might say, Christians, or the church. A “fig tree,” along with other horticultural analogies, are a common in Jesus’ parables. Have you ever been tempted to “give up” on “the Church”? Don’t. There are no perfect churches… but there’s also no “plan B.” How do we follow Jesus’ commands to do things “unto the least of these among my brothers” if we avoid his brothers? How can we use our gifts that were given to build up the church in love, if we avoid the church? How can we fulfill the Great Commission alone? We can’t. Church, the church, is a vital component to God’s plan for the world. It is the Body of Christ, don’t give up on it. It needs to be cultured and developed. Christians are like fertilizer, when we clump up too much in one place, we tend to stink… but when we’re spread around, we help things grow. Don’t give up on the church, don’t give up on God’s plan, don’t give up on God’s people.

16 Then he told them a parable: “A rich man’s land was very productive. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What should I do, since I don’t have anywhere to store my crops? 18 I will do this,’ he said. ‘I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones and store all my grain and my goods there. 19 Then I’ll say to myself, “You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”’

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared—whose will they be?’

21 “That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

Luke 12

How much money is “enough”? There’s not enough money in the world to keep you from dying, no amount is “enough.” Money doesn’t make you happy, no amount is “enough.” Rather, we are better off learning to be content with what we have. Don’t waste your time accumulating wealth for yourself. Working hard and earning your way is a good thing, but overworking yourself, to the neglect of your family and church, isn’t going to help you on your last day. Work hard, play hard, live well, be generous, and trust the Lord for your provision.
