Psalms 59-65

Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;

protect me from those who rise up against me;

deliver me from those who work evil,

and save me from bloodthirsty men.

When we rely on the Lord, he is the one who will protect us. We need not worry about others who seek to do us harm. Yet, sometimes they do succeed. When they do, we can rest in the knowledge that it will be worked together along with everything else in our lives for our own good. God uses the pain in our life to mold us into whom we’re meant to be.

Psalms 53-58

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”

They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;

there is none who does good.

God looks down from heaven

on the children of man

to see if there are any who understand,

who seek after God.

They have all fallen away;

together they have become corrupt;

there is none who does good,

not even one.

The rise of the “new atheists” has seen a new low in logical thought. Gone are the days of the most famous proponents of atheism as logical philosophers who at least make you think (like Voltaire, Nietzche or Bertrand Russell). Today’s evangelistic anti-Christians would rather spout silly arguments about flying spaghetti monsters. They make themselves look like fools when attempting to answer the big questions like “why are we here.” But lest we too begin to feel all to superior, every one of us does the same thing, so some degree. None of us is right, and that’s why we need God. We need His Son’s death to be applied to our life so He might live through us. The only hope for humanity is God, don’t deny Him with your life, even if you acknowledge Him with your lips.

Psalms 49-52

The Mighty One, God the Lord,

speaks and summons the earth

from the rising of the sun to its setting.

Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,

God shines forth.

God is the judge, the only judge, of the world. He alone has the authority to all all the earth before him and measure everyone by His own standard. You know what? No one will measure up. We all need help. Every single person requires a savior in order to come away from God’s judgment. Thankfully, God has provided one. And not just for a few, but for all who call upon Him, Jesus. Trust Him today.

Psalms 43-48

Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause

against an ungodly people,

from the deceitful and unjust man

deliver me!

We need help. We have an Advocate who is not only pleading our case for us, He’s also the Judge. It may take time, a lifetime even, but God will defend your cause and we will be vindicated… not because of our own actions, but on behalf of the Son who died for us. Do not worry about those who oppose you, God will take care of it. Trust Him.

Psalms 38-42

Blessed is the man who makes

the Lord his trust,

who does not turn to the proud,

to those who go astray after a lie!

Be careful what you put your trust in. Just because someone tells you what you want to hear, doesn’t make it true. Trust in God. His way is going to end up better anyway. “follow me and you’ll never experience pain” “trust in me and I’ll bring you fortune and comfort” yet, it’s a lie. The Christian life, in many ways, is a hard one. It is the road less traveled, but it’s also a paradox. It is also the easy way because it is not our own effort which takes us along the road, it is Christ in us. Don’t turn to the one who tickles your ears, trust in the creator of heaven and earth, Jesus Christ.
