What are the Gospels?

Are they history books? Are the legend? Are they the records of a philosophical school of thought?

Gospels kells

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.

Luke 1:1-4

No. They are Gospels.

Joy in the morning

What is our hope?

Martin Resurrection Morning

Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.

Mark 16

Jesus told us he is God. Jesus told us he could save us, but these are just words.

Where are you God!?

If you’ve ever been in a position where you feel like God isn’t there, you are not alone!

WhereisGod

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Mark 15:34

Jesus has been there. At the moment of his death, the weight of the world was on him and he became our sin, he cries out with a lament Psalm “where are you God!!!!?” But the answer came three days later… NO, I have NOT forsaken you!

We may feel alone, but we are not. The pain is in the evening, but joy comes in the morning. Wait on God, cry out to him… he is still there, and he understands.

The New Covenant

In the OT the covenant was struck between God and His People through the blood of so many animals and heaps of sacrifices, the New Covenant is different…

Communion elements

This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.

Mark 14:24

Just as Jeremiah 31 tells us, the new covenant was coming. It is a confirmation of the original covenant, yet the sacrifice is through himself! No more sacrifice, no more animal blood, no more laws on stone tablets… Jesus puts his Spirit in our hearts. We don’t have to teach the old Law, now Jesus’ Law is on our hearts, the Law of Love. Since the cross, we are free to follow Jesus!

Jesus is coming a week from Thursday!

“The sky is falling, the sky is falling” -Chicken Little

Sky is falling11

“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. …And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”

Mark 13:32-37

I know the topic called Bible prophecy, Eschatology, or End-Times study is exciting and interesting, but the truth is, we are commanded to be ready always because we don’t know (and can’t know) when it’s going to happen. Just as the disciples could see the signs to be ready for the destruction of the Temple in AD70, we too should always be ready and urgent in our efforts because He is coming soon!

When someone tells you the date for Jesus’ return, you can know he’s wrong. 😉
