Ruth: part one
Chapters 1-2
• Ruth is a LOVE story that starts out SAD (Ruth 1:1-5)
There are three main characters
1. Naomi: The WIDOW
2. RUTH: The Moabite
3. Boaz: The FARMER
Chapter One: An Israelite family moves from BETHLEHEM to Moab because of a famine
• The father DIES and his two sons marry Moabite women named Ruth and Orpah
• After TEN years both sons die as well leaving Naomi, Ruth, and Orpah widows
• Naomi decides to move back HOME to Judah, Orpah moves back HOME as well (Ruth 1:8-19)
• Ruth showed extraordinary loyalty and love for Naomi and the LORD
Chapter Two: Ruth and Naomi need to find food
• Israel was to leave the EDGES for the poor (Leviticus 23:22)
• Ruth went to “glean” in the field of a man named Boaz who was a RELATIVE of Naomi (Ruth 2:1)
• Special provision for the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow (Deuteronomy 24:19-22)
• Boaz was impressed by Ruth’s CHARACTER (Ruth 2:11-12)
• Boaz could be the “Kinsman Redeemer” (Leviticus 35:47-55; Hebrews 2:11)
