Israel was to AVOID their moral corruption
The Canaanites were so bad, they even practiced CHILD SACRIFICE
Israel was to be “set apart” or HOLY – but they failed
Chapter 2: Israel ADOPTS Canaanite religious practices
The “Cycle of the JUDGES” is a downward spiral (Judges 2:20-23)
Step 1: Israel SEDUCED by the Canaanites
Step 2: God would let the Canaanites subdue and OPPRESS Israel
Step 3: Eventually Israel would REPENT
Step 4: God raises up a DELIVERER to defeat the Canaanites, a “judge”
Step 5: An era of PEACE
