Who’s To Blame?

Pilate asked them again, “Then what do you want me to do with the one you call the king of the Jews?”

Again they shouted, “Crucify him!”

Pilate said to them, “Why? What has he done wrong?”

But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!”

Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

Mark 15

Who’s to blame for Jesus’ death? It’s always easy to blame those “in power” for the things that happen, and those in positions of authority surely want to get credit when things turn out well, but who’s really to blame? Pilot may get a bad rap for Jesus because he was the one “in charge” but he was just doing what the crowd wanted. It’s easy to blame the president or the governor or some other elected official, but we get what we ask for. This is even more true the more corrupt the politician is. If they don’t have any principles what so ever, then they want to be re-elected more than anything else. We get what we ask for. Pilot isn’t guilty of Jesus’ death, we all are. Jesus went to the cross because of our sin. Let’s not blame someone else for the pickle we find ourselves in, let’s focus more on where do we go from here.
