D-Day and 101st Screaming Eagles

It’s tradition now, I have to post about Uncle Mel.

On this day 78 years ago the Normandy invasion began. Led by U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower, an Allied armada of ships, planes, and landing craft and some 156,000 troops began the invasion of northern France from England June 6, 1944—the famous “D-Day” of World War II.

4,414 young men gave their lives for freedom far from home. Honor their courage and remember their sacrifice today.

I’m honored to say my family was there. Ernest Melvin Morrison (“Mel” to his family, “Ernie” to his mom), a 20 year old kid, jumped out of a plane and parachuted into France…
