1Corinthians 5

1Corinthians 5:7 “Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new unleavened batch, as indeed you are.”

vv. 1-2: Report of a man sleeping with his father’s wife; church arrogance condemned.

vv. 3-5: Paul orders# instructs expulsion of the man to Satan for salvation.

vv. 6-8: Sin spreads like leaven; remove it for purity at Passover (Christ’s sacrifice).

vv. 9-13: Avoid immoral “believers,” not all outsiders; God judges the latter.

1 Corinthians 5 demands church discipline to remove sin and maintain holiness.

1Corinthians 4

1Corinthians 4:4 “For I am not conscious of anything against myself, but I am not justified by this. It is the Lord who judges me.”

vv. 1-5: Apostles are stewards of God’s mysteries; only God judges them.

vv. 6-7: Warning against pride; all gifts come from God.

vv. 8-13: Sarcasm about their “greatness”; apostles suffer as fools for Christ.

vv. 14-17: Paul admonishes as a father, sending Timothy as an example.

vv. 18-21: He’ll visit to confront arrogance, preferring gentleness if they repent.

1 Corinthians 4 defends apostolic humility and authority, urging humility before God’s judgment.
