Through The Bible: Habakkuk

“Wednesday Service” 6:30PM Scott Lake Baptist Church (Lakeland)

An Overview of The Bible
The Book of Habakkuk

• Habakkuk lived in the final years of the SOUTHERN Kingdom (Judah)

• This book is a different from the other prophetic books:

—> Habakkuk does not accuse ISRAEL of anything

—> He does not speak on behalf of GOD as a prophet

—> His words are addressed to GOD as prayer

CHAPTERS 1-2 are a back-and-forth “argument” between Habakkuk and GOD

• Complaint #1: (Hab. 1:2-4) Life in Israel (Judah, proper) has become HORRIBLE.

• Response #1 (Hab. 1:5-11) God is aware of the corruption of HIS people.

• Complaint #2 (Hab. 1:12-2:1) Babylon is WORSE than Israel!

• Response #2 (Hab. 2:2-5) God tells Habakkuk to WRITE what he sees and hears.

5 Woes:

1. & 2. Unjust ECONOMIC practices.

3. SLAVE Labor.

4. The abuse of ALCOHOL by leaders.

5. IDOLATRY.

CHAPTER 3 Will God allow this kind of cycle of Babylon go on forever?
