CHAPTER 1: Begins with God calling Jonah to prophecy against Nineveh, the capital city of the Assyrian Empire, Israel’s bitter enemy.

• Jonah does not go EAST to Nineveh, he flees 3,000 miles WEST to Tarshish.

• The PAGANS act the way Jonah should have

• Jonah is swallowed by a great FISH and is in its belly three days and three nights.

CHAPTER 2: God does not allow Jonah to ESCAPE

• Jonah prays a POEM from the belly of the great fish:

—> He never REPENTS

—> He thanks God for not ABANDONING him

—> He promises to OBEY from now on

• The fish VOMITS his body onto dry land
