The Book of Hosea
• Hosea was a prophet in the NORTHERN kingdom under Jeroboam II
• Chapters 1-3 Hosea’s broken marriage to a woman named Gomer
• They had THREE children and then it completely falls apart.
• God tells Hosea to go find her, pay all her debts, and commit to love her once again.
• This is all a prophetic symbol of God’s relationship to ISRAEL
• Israel has rebelled and God will bring serious consequences… but God’s LOVE and MERCY are more powerful than Israel’s SIN
• Chapters 4-10 Hosea explores the causes and effects of Israel’s UNFAITHFULNESS
• Not only was Israel trusting in other gods, they were also making POLITICAL alliances with the enemies of God: Egypt and Assyria
• Chapters 12-14 are a HISTORY lesson
• Israel (which is a FAMILY) have been unfaithful from the very beginning.
• Hosea calls Israel to REPENT and turn back to God even though he knows it won’t last.
• God’s heart is to save you, if you will let him.
