Through The Bible: Daniel (part one)

“Wednesday Service” 6:30PM

An Overview of The Bible
The Book of Daniel (part one)

• Daniel takes place just after the FIRST attack on Jerusalem (same one when Ezekiel was taken captive) when King Jehoiakim was taken into “pre-exile” in Babylon.

• Among the captives taken to Babylon are FOUR young Hebrew men.

DANIEL (Belteshazzar); HANANIAH (Shadrach); Michael (Meshach); Azariah (Abednego)

Chapters 1-6 are stories about DANIEL and his friends.

Chapters 7-12 are Daniel’s visions about the FUTURE.

• Chapter One: *Daniel and his friends are recruited to serve in the ROYAL COURT in Babylon.

• They are pressured to give up their Hebrew identity by violating FOOD laws found in the Torah

• Chapter Two: The king of Babylon has a DREAM that only Daniel can interpret.

• Chapter Three: Daniel’s 3 friends refuse to bow down and WORSHIP an idol.

• The next two chapters tell the stories of 2 kings who are FATHER and SON

• Chapter Four: Nebuchadnezzar; and Chapter Five: Belshazzar

• Nebuchadnezzar is stricken by God and becomes like a WILD BEAST… when he HUMBLES himself, he is restored.

• Belshazzar sees the WRITING on the wall…
• MENE: God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end.
• TEKEL: You have been weighed on the balance and found deficient.
• PARSIN: Your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

• Chapter Six: Daniel refuses to PRAY to and worship the king as a god.

• He was thrown into the LION’S DEN… yet delivered.
