The Book of Jeremiah (part two)

 

 

• Jeremiah was a PRIEST in Jerusalem at the very end of the (Southern) kingdom of Judah

• SECTION 1 (CH 1-24): Accusations and WARNINGS.

• Jeremiah’s “Temple Sermon” (CH 7) condemns saying you believe in the Lord but living contrary to HIS WORD.

• SECTION 2 (CH 26-45): Judgment and Hope for ISRAEL

• Jeremiah picks up on Moses’ prediction (Deut. 30) that after Israel’s Judgment and exile God would renew the COVENANT and transform Israel’s hearts (Jeremiah 31 & Hebrews 8)

• SECTION 3 (CH 46-51): Judgment and Hope for THE NATIONS

• CH 50-51 The longest collection of poems are about God’s judgment upon BABYLON

• The Final Chapter (CH 51) concludes with a story from 2Kings 25 about the final attack on JERUSALEM

• The book ends with Jehoiachin, heir to the throne in the line of DAVID.
