Through The Bible: Isaiah (Part 3)

“Wednesday Service” 6:30PM

 An Overview of The Bible
The Book of Isaiah (Part 3)

• The book was written by the prophet Isaiah and has a very complex literary design

• The First Half of Isaiah (Chapters 1-39) has 3 main sections
Section 1: (Ch 1-12) Judgment and hope for Jerusalem (Isa. 6:13 & 11:1; Isa. 7:14 & 9:6-7)
Section 2: (Ch 13-27) Judgment and hope for the Nations (Isa. 25:7-8; see: Rev. 21:2-4)
Section 3: (Ch 28-39) The Rise and Fall of Jerusalem (see: 2Kings 24-25)

• The Second Half of Isaiah (Chapters 40-66) develops the theme of hope further

• Chapters 40-48 is an announcement of hope (Isa. 40:27-31; 43:19)

• Isaiah wrote his part and left the rest to his disciples (Isa. 8:16; 30:8-9)

• Ch 41-47 is a COURTROOM scene. God is answering accusations

“Sometimes God allows what he HATES to accomplish what he LOVES.”
― Joni Eareckson Tada, “The God I Love” (see: Rom. 8:28)

• Chapters 49-55 we see the SERVANT who will fulfill God’s mission

• He is a SUFFERING servant who will restore the New Jerusalem (Isa 50:6; 52:13-15; 53:1-12)

• This can only be JESUS… you can he his “seed” or counted among “the wicked”

• Chapters 56-66 The SERVANTS inherit God’s Kingdom (Isa. 56:3; 66:18-24)

GOOD NEWS of God’s Kingdom to the poor (Isa. 61:1-2; cf. Luke 4:16-21)

• God’s glory proclaimed among the nations and they worship Him (Isa. 66:18-24; Mark 9:43-48)

• It is a message of both judgment and hope.
