• Proverbs are short CLEVER sayings that offer wisdom
• The shorter proverbs are in the CENTER section: Proverbs 10-29
• The BEGINNING section is Proverbs 1-9
• The CONCLUSION is Proverbs 30-31
• Proverbs 1-9 links this book with SOLOMON
• The purpose of Proverbs is to develop PRACTICAL SKILLS to live in God’s world.
• A main theme in Proverbs is the “FEAR of the Lord” (Prov 1:7; 9:10)
• Proverbs 1-9 include TEN speeches written as though from a FATHER to a son.
• Proverbs 1-9 also contains FOUR poems from “Lady WISDOM”
Proverbs 1:20-33; 3:13-20; 8; and 9
• Proverbs is not simply godly advice, but it’s God’s invitation to learn wisdom from previous generations and to build upon our knowledge of the Lord and how best to live in His world.
