The Book of Job: Part 3
Job 32-42
• Job proves RESURRECTION has always been part of the faith. (Job 19:25-27)
• The main characters are NOT Israelites
Chapters 1-2: Satan (the Accuser) gets permission from God to test Job, a RIGHTEOUS man
Chapters 3-31: Dialogue – Dense Hebrew Poetry, between Job & his THREE friends.
• This all revolves around 3 questions:
1. Is God JUST?
2. If so… does God run the world according to His JUSTICE?
3. If so… how can we explain Job’s SUFFERING?
• Job asks God to RESPOND (Job 31:35)
Chapters 32-37 A surprise friend shows up – Elihu the Buzite
• Elihu does not claim to know WHY Job is suffering, but he knows that it is wrong to accuse God of being UNJUST.
Chapters 38-41 God shows up in a WHIRLWIND
• God takes Job on a virtual tour of the UNIVERSE (Job 38:4)
• God asks Job to answer him, and he can’t (John 40:6-14)
• The world is not always SAFE for us, but God is in CONTROL, and He is GOOD
Chapter 42 Job responds with HUMILITY and REPENTANCE
