The Book of Job: Part 2
Job 1-31
• Job is probably the first book in the Bible to be WRITTEN (see: Job 19:25-27)
• There is no specific time period mentioned, it is probably set BEFORE Jacob/Israel
Prologue (Ch 1-2); Epilogue (Ch 42); Dialogue (Ch 3-37); Monologue (Ch 38-41)
Chapters 1-2
• Job is RIGHTEOUS
• We see God in the midst of the divine ASSEMBLY, the heavenly COURT (see: Psalm 82)
• Satan causes Job to SUFFER to test him, and Job’s wife and THREE friends are no help
Chapters 3-37
• Job speaks, then Friend #1 responds (Chapters 3-14)
• Job responds, then Friend #2 responds (Chapters 15-21)
• Job responds, then Friend #3 responds (Chapters 22-28)
Three Questions:
(1) Is God JUST? (2) If so… does God run the WORLD according to His JUSTICE? (3) If so… how can we explain Job’s SUFFERING?
