An Overview of The Bible
The Book of Chronicles
1Chronicles – 2Chronicles

• There are two main themes of hope in Chronicles:
1. The coming MESSIAH
2. The future of the TEMPLE

• There are three main sections in Chronicles:
1. 1Chronicles 1-9
2. 1Chronicles 10-29
3. 2Chronicles 1-36

Section One: Nine chapters of GENEALOGIES

• Looking at the PAST can give encouragement for the FUTURE.

Section Two: All about DAVID

• There are two key differences between Samuel & Kings and Section Two of Chronicles:

1. The NEGATIVE stories are omitted

2. NEW material is added not present in Samuel or Kings:

– 1Chronicles 22-29: David makes preparations to BUILD the temple

– 1Chronicles 28:11-19: David is portrayed like MOSES

Section Three: After David’s death we transition to the kings in JERUSALEM

• The Chronicler leaves out all the kings of ISRAEL in the North

• The kings in the South who were OBEDIENT to the Lord leads to success and prosperity.

• Section Three of Chronicles adds new material about kings in Jerusalem who are unfaithful which leads to the Babylonian Exile.

• It’s a story in search of an ending…

About John Harris

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
