Samuel: part one
1Samuel 1-7
• First and Second Samuel is ONE book
• There are three main characters: SAMUEL, SAUL, and DAVID
• The story moves Israel from individual TRIBES into a UNITED Kingdom
• The book is divided into four main parts
(1) Chapters 1-7: Samuel is the key leader and PROPHET
(2) Chapters 8-31: Samuel plays a key role in SAUL’s story
Then 2Samuel
(3) Chapters 1-20: DAVID’s rise and fall
(4) Chapters 21-24: The epilogue that summarizes the whole story
SECTION ONE (1Sam 1-7) Hannah is blessed by God with a CHILD when none seemed possible.
• In Chapters 4-7 Samuel becomes the key SPIRITUAL leader in Israel.
THE POINT:
• God is not a TROPHY to use for personal gain.
• God opposes PRIDE among His people.
• God’s people must remain HUMBLE and obedient to experience His blessings.
