Tend the vineyard

Don’t I have the right to do what I want with what is mine? Are you jealous because I’m generous?

Matthew 20:15

There is a temptation to look at others’ blessings and feel a sense of loss. “Why can’t I have that?” Don’t fall into that trap. Our Lord knows we’re like this, that’s why this parable exists. We already know “thou shall not covet” (Exod 20:17), but Jesus makes it more personal. Do we not trust Him? He has promised to give us all we need (Matthew 6:33), so don’t worry about what he blesses others with. Once we start down the road of the comparison game, we all lose, that’s how coveting works, it’s poison. Rather, count your blessings, as the song says. Look at what God has done for you and be thankful for his many blessings. Be faithful with how he has blessed you and he will honor that gratitude. It really is about our faith in him.
