Are they history books? Are the legend? Are they the records of a philosophical school of thought?
Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
Luke 1:1-4
No. They are Gospels.
They are books written within the context of a Jewish Greco-Roman world. They are not fiction, they have all the hallmarks of actual narrative accounts (details, locations, that’s what they claim to be, etc…). Luke in particular is an “orderly account.” This does not claim the Bible anywhere is a modern newspaper like scientifically precise record, but it is a historical document, written within a context, within a specific culture. It is true. The Bible nowhere affirms anything false.
It is eyewitness testimony to the life and ministry of our savior, Jesus Christ. Do you know Him today? Do not turn Him away.
