Pray (James 5)

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

We pray. Does it make a difference? Absolutely! How prayer works itself out in that we pray to an all-knowing all-powerful sovereign God is something not so easy to work out, but the fact that prayer does work is not in question. The Bible tells us so. Even our physical ailments are a matter of prayer for the church. We are commanded to pray for one another. Here’s the thing, though the Bible does promise us healing, God doesn’t promise us when… except for the resurrection. See, the mature leaders of the church can come together and pray for your healing, and it might not come, you may even die… but that doesn’t mean you won’t be healed. Death is never the end of the story for the Believer. Your sins have been forgiven, so you will be raised imperishable! One day, all of our bodies will be like Jesus’. One day, we will all be healed of everything, including our sin. God will raise you up… until then, we pray.
