When Faith Didn’t Work (John 13)

Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow afterward.” Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.

Peter, unlike Judas, became a pillar of the church. He upheld Jesus, the rock upon which Christianity stands! But it wasn’t always that way. Peter said he would never deny Jesus. Peter pledged his life for his Lord… and as soon as he was given an opportunity, Peter denied Jesus.  So what happens when faith doesn’t work? You have a choice, you can be Judas and go on and walk away from Jesus, or you can be Peter. Peter went out and wept bitterly. Jesus came and restored Peter. When you fall, when you backslide, when you doubt… you get to choose. Will you be Judas or Peter? When your faith fails, get back up! God didn’t call you because you’re perfect, he won’t walk away from you when you mess up.

About John Harris

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
