The Harvest (Matthew 9)

And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Jesus didn’t stand still, He moved… he spread the word… He saw the people who needed Him, and he realized the harvest was more than ready! Many times, we want to just sit back and see what happens… I can tell you what happens when you just sit back, nothing is what happens. Kingdom ministry takes work, you have to get “out there” in the same way Jesus did. Sure, Sunday morning is the “big deal” each week, but Sunday is the RESULT of ministry, not the “lets just see what happens.” You have to come ready for the harvest, you have to plow the field, remove the weeds, put in the fertilizer, do the work of the evangelist… Go to all the cities and villages.

So the question is, where is your village? Where can you go to work the harvest. Will you be a “worker” in God’s field, or will you just sit there and see what happens? God is the one that causes the crops to grow, but the farmer still has much work to do to reap the harvest. It is plentiful, but we need help… or as a pastor once said “grab a hoe, pick a row”

Now let’s get going! Who will you bring to your church this week?

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
