They Came Looking

The wise men came looking for a king. They did what was logical, if you’re looking for the king of the Jews, you go to Jerusalem. Then they learned (from the Bible) they were to go to Bethlehem.

“Where can we find and pay homage to the newborn King of the Jews? We observed a star in the eastern sky that signaled his birth. We’re on pilgrimage to worship him.”

-Matt 2

So too with us. Don’t wait for all the specifics, God doesn’t work that way.

What do you know God wants you to do (or not do). Start there. If you’re going in the wrong direction, but honestly seeking Him, He’ll show you the updated GPS coordinates “recalculating.”

Seek your direction from God’s word. Does God want me to dishonor my parents? Does God want me to rob a bank? Does God want me to murder someone? Does God want me to cheat? Does God want me to get divorced? No, He doesn’t. Stop praying about those things.

Head in the general direction God is pointing you. Become a part of a church, jump in. Find your passion in serving and give it all you’ve got. Give through your local body of Christ, give joyfully, not having to be compelled. God loves it when you do that. Read God’s word every day (maybe, say, using this) and listen for more specifics. Trust and obey, it’s not just a song, it’s a life.

About John Harris

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
