Why Evangelism Is Important

We (Christians) all know we should be sharing our faith, right?

Here are 7 things about evangelism that we would do well to remember

  • We need more people to get involved, it’s a huge task!

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

-Matt 9:37-38

  • It’s not optional, it’s what Jesus told us to do

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

-Matthew 28:18-20

  • People will listen

And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

-John 10:16

  • Jesus is the only way

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

-John 14:6

  • We are given the strength to do it, and it’s why we have the Holy Spirit

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

-Acts 1:8

  • People can’t call on God without believing, and they can’t believe if they haven’t heard, and they won’t hear unless we open our mouths and tell them about Jesus.

For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

-Romans 10:11-15

  • It is evangelism that produces real growth in your Christian walk

and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.

-Philemon 6

About John Harris

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

good word, thank you for sharing John!

  2. Thank you my friend. I’m glad to know my commenting system works. Folks tend to stay quiet, I like more dialogue. Hope y’all are well, what’s up lately?

great, as you know, or maybe not, we added two more to our fold so we now have 15, 13, 3, and 16 months – they’re two boys. have all your babies while your young, they lie about it keeping you young, they make me feel older. 🙂
truly at this point I’m more of a part of the normal congregation than I’ve ever been in my life. I haven’t taught or been doing much of anything, other than trying to chase around two boys. pouring into their lives I think has become a top priority.
Justin just got back from Manti, UT and going to share the gospel with the Mormons. this past week we just had about 5 Mormons over to our house to talk about the true gospel, not the “restored” gospel. Jesus didn’t leave a deficient gospel – needless to say they came twice and were done with us. 🙂 But my big take away was Justin’s response after they left the second time – he asked me, “Daddy, can we pray for them?”. He saw the blind eyes and it burdened his heart – glad for that.
What about you all? How close are you on your PhD work? How’s the babies?
    Take care and God’s blessings,
    Tim
